Foundation Options
Timber Foundation (most common):
To start you will need: 3/4″ drain rock or crush gravel, 4×6 pressure treated timbers or railroad ties, dimensions as per the size of your Growhut.
- Place foundation timbers in trenches on a bed of gravel so that the top of the timbers will be flush height (or slightly higher) with the surrounding ground in your yard.
- After foundation timbers are securely fastened together, backfill around the timbers with gravel and fill the remaining floor area with gravel also.
- You may lay down landscape cloth in the floor area prior to placing gravel, to impede any weed growth.
- Tamp down all gravel until compact.
Direct Ground Placement:
Some of our customers don’t want to bother with the added expense of a foundation. Depending on the climate, and because our Growhuts sit on a Redwood plate, this approach is fine. However, we do recommend placement on a gravel bed to ensure proper drainage and drying below your Growhut.
